Course Description

This course is designed for yoga teachers, educators, clinicians and others who may be interested in integrating trauma-informed and mental health aware mindfulness, somatic and yoga-based practices into their existing or future work with young people.

This training weaves together embodied trauma-informed frameworks (including polyvagal theory and somatic movement theories), youth mental health awareness, anti-oppressive pedagogies and intercultural practice along with mindfulness, creative arts and yoga-based practices that are appropriate for young people aged between 12 and 25 years.

This 50hr course offers:

  • A foundational framework of embodied wellbeing for young people, based on evidence-informed research from developmental neurobiology, attachment theory, neuroscience, critical pedagogy, yoga and somatics;

  • Trauma-informed and mental health-aware mindfulness, yoga and somatic practices;

  • Anti-oppressive and decolonising approaches to pedagogy, course design and facilitation;

  • Restorative and embodied mindfulness practices designed specifically for young people;

  • Embodied facilitation skills, including youth group facilitation skills, somatic boundary work, dynamic group agreement frameworks, managing challenging behaviours, and co-regulation and self-attunement practices that are specific to working with young people; and

  • A supportive framework for designing and delivering youth-focused programs for individuals and groups.
